The 11th Chinese Culture Festival, organized by the Greater Washington Chinese-American Community with the support of over 100 local Chinese-American organizations, will be held in Chinatown, Washington, D.C. on Sunday, September 27, 2009.
The primary purpose of the Festival is to showcase Chinese-American culture, to further enrich American cultural life by promoting cultural diversity, and to foster harmony and friendship among people with different cultural background. Since 1999, this annual festival has increasingly attracted a greater and more diverse audience and become one of the largest ethnic cultural events in the nation's Capital.
After years of hosting the Festival in different formats and locations such as National Mall, Freedom Plaza, and Chinatown in Washington D.C., the organizer decided, in 2008, to pick Chinatown as the permanent site to host Chinese Culture Festival.
In addition to traditional programs of Chinese culture festival: Dragon dance, Lion dance, waist drum dance, Taichi demo, Kungfu demo, and musical performance, three popular rock n' roll 'Sing For China' bands "Hedgehog", "Queen Sea Big Shark", and "Casino Demon" are invited from China to perform at the Festival this time.
Food is another exciting point at this Festival. Five food vendors New Asia Market, Tokyo Inn Japanese Steakhouse, Sichuan Village Restaurant,Tai Shan Restaurant, and Jade Express Restaurant will sell different styles of Chinese food.
Meanwhile, some acupuncturists and doctors of traditional Chinese medicine will serve the public for free and other artists and craftsmen will show you their calligraphy, landscape paitings, and handiwork.
